Dental Implants – Complex Case

added on: June 16, 2012

Can Dental Implants be used in every complex case?

This patient was referred for evaluation of possible surgical treatment and Dental Implants to replace hopeless teeth.  I diagnosed the patient with a grossly over contoured bridge in the Maxillary Anterior Quad, lack of keratinized gingiva, and alveolar bone deficiency in height and width.  Several teeth were deemed hopeless due to the amount of bone loss and mobility.  After healing is complete I will determine if Dental Implants can be utilized to replace the missing teeth.  This is a very complex case and Dental Implants may be contraindicated.  I’ll post updates as we go.

Dental Implants are a titanium root that a periodontist places into your jaw to retain a replacement tooth.  They are an ideal treatment for people who have lost teeth due to gum disease, trauma, or cavities.  Dental Implants are a more favorable treatment option than a traditional bridge to replace missing teeth.  This is true because they don’t rely on neighboring teeth for support.  Once restored, you may forget you ever lost a tooth.  This can have a major effect on your confidence, ability to chew, smile, and speak!  Under ideal conditions, such as proper placement by Dr. Lanman, properly restored by your general dentist, and diligent home care, they can last a lifetime.
